☀️ Happy Monday, Union County!

The heat is on, but so is the fun. This week we've got a sweet new ice cream shop to help you cool off, free live music in nearly every town, and a bittersweet goodbye to a longtime local favorite. Grab something cold and let's dig in.

New Openings & Food News

It's a big week for the local food scene. We've got fresh ice cream, buzzy bagels, a beloved brewery under brand new ownership, and one bittersweet farewell. Here's what's cooking.

🍦 Frosto's Ice Cream & Italian Ice Opens in Union
1350 Galloping Hill Road, Suite J, Union

One of our readers tipped us off about this new ice cream place in Union at the Galloping Hill Center. The menu covers hard and soft serve ice cream, Italian ice, and specialty sundaes, and you can order online for pickup. It's open from 11 AM to 11 PM daily.

When Lions Roar Brewing Co. went up for sale, its very first employee decided she wasn't ready to hand it over to anyone else. Maddie Bowen, who has managed the brewery since before it opened, is now the owner. Expect the same live music, trivia, and karaoke nights, plus new ideas in the works like mahjong nights and book clubs. Not a beer drinker? They also pour house-made seltzers, teas, sodas, mocktails, and NA beer.

🥯 PopUp Bagels Opens in Westfield (July 10)
220 South Ave., Westfield

PopUp Bagels, the cult-favorite brand known for its warm, small-batch bagels served with tubs of dip, just opened its first New Jersey location near downtown. It's the first of more than 25 planned across the state. Have you tried it yet, and be honest, do you still prefer a traditional bagel? Hit reply or tag us on Instagram @ucscoop, and we'll share reader takes in an upcoming issue.

🍝 III Amici Ristorante Is Closing After 36 Years
1700 W. Elizabeth Ave., Linden

After more than three decades of family dinners and milestone celebrations, Linden's III Amici Ristorante announced it will close as founder Giovanni Iavarone retires. The restaurant opened in 1990 and thanked the community for 36 years of support. If it holds memories for you, now is the time for one more visit.

Last Week’s Poll

Last week we asked: Where does your workday happen? Half of you are enjoying life beyond the commute, with retired or not currently commuting taking the top spot at 50%. Working locally right here in Union County came in second with about a quarter of the vote, followed by working from home. Only a small crew still heads into NYC. Thanks to everyone who voted!
