Happy Monday, neighbors!
There’s plenty to dig into this week, starting with our pizza bracket, kicking off today, October 26, and running throughout the week! Get ready to cheer on your favorite local pizza spot.
I stopped by Vina on opening day for an oyster mushroom banh mi and Vietnamese cold brew, and Springfield has a new destination for soup dumplings. Around the county, we’ve got Diwali in Scotch Plains, Halloween fun in Cranford and Summit, and a Sunday pumpkin sail to send those jack-o’-lanterns off in style. Let’s get into it.

Restaurant News
Vina opened Friday, October 23! The Vietnamese street-food spot at 114 Quimby Street comes from the team behind Kirshenbaum Baking Co. The concept draws on Chef Uyen’s family recipes. I went on opening day and tried the oyster mushroom banh mi paired with a Vietnamese cold brew coffee. It doesn’t disappoint! They’re open Tuesday–Sunday, 11 AM–9 PM, and closed Mondays. Ugly Dumpling is now open in Springfield! Soup-dumpling fans have a new stop at 40 Route 22 West in the former TGI Fridays space. The Shanghai street-food-inspired restaurant serves the signature Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), dim sum, noodles and wok dishes. There are plenty of options for sharing a few plates. Hours are Sunday–Thursday, 11 AM–10 PM, and Friday–Saturday, 11 AM–10:30 PM. Takeout and delivery are available through its website, where this location is listed as “Union.”
